Grain’s Creative Director guest lectures at Claude Littner Business School

Last month, our Creative Director Madelyn Postman was invited to give a lecture on Multi-Channel Luxury Branding at the University of West London’s Claude Littner Business School, which won praise from both attending students and lecturers.

Since winning the Creative Industries Business of the Year award in the West London Business Awards 2013, we have decided to engage more with local businesses with the aim to support and inspire the next generation of industry leaders.

One of our key local partners is the University of West London (UWL) and our relationship has grown over the years from offering internship opportunities to students to participating in industry forums. It was an honour to be invited by the head of the Business School to lead a lecture on our specialist field of Luxury Branding.

We had just completed the branding and launched the ecommerce website for new luxury childrenswear company Petit Tribe so Madelyn began the lecture with this as the main case study, and expanded on it with previous projects that Grain worked on for Gucci and Burberry. The lecture focused on the main theme of the importance of companies differentiating themselves from their competitors using strong, consistent and unique branding.

Many interesting questions came up with the Q&A with students and lecturers, with many of the students demonstrating their knowledge and kicking off a debate on whether or not good branding was the key to neutralise competitors in the marketplace and what value propositions should be formed to create unique selling points and ultimately a strong brand. Branding is no longer limited to the “design” value proposition anymore. In fact, it has expanded to other strategic fields such as innovation, brand attributes, strategy and customer awareness. A good brand strategy is found at the core of any business and at the beginning of every product’s success. Without effective branding, it is unlikely that any product or service can survive in today’s highly competitive market.

Earlier this year, as part of our dedicated local business engagement programme of talks and lectures, our PR and marketing executive held a talk on social media at Kaplan International College.
