My first month at Grain

I am now one month in as a designer at Grain. Previously I was a designer at Champneys Health Spa and before that I worked for myself, as a partner in small T-shirt printing company. Now reflecting back on this journey I can say that I spent too long working away from other creatives and now I am enjoying being in the company of other designers.

My time working for myself was a huge learning curve and overall a good experience. My motivation to start my own company years ago was to work in the design industry but for myself.

I came to the realisation recently that I had isolated myself from the creative world and it was now or never to make a move. I am proud of the branding and identity work I did on my own. Working alongside small companies and becoming a part of their growth made me realise that branding and design is what I definitely wanted to do.

However, this did not prepare me for the thought process of branding and design on a larger scale. Understanding the challenges and objectives of a business and then addressing these through design requires a certain mindset as well as a creative spark.

Already after one month at Grain my mindset has changed on my approach to projects. I have been exposed to new disciplines and thought processes and am looking forward to learning even more during my time ahead!
