An Experience to Remember

By Tim Verbakel

The day I received a positive response from Grain was the start of a great adventure. I was invited to be a junior designer in London for three and a half months!

Coming over from The Netherlands has been a great experience where I have learned a lot. Not only in graphic design, but my English has also improved to a new level. Everyone from the Grain team made me feel very at home, so thank you all. As the last 2 weeks are starting, I feel like the time has flown by. To think the first week I was in England it snowed and now the weather has just reached a stunning 32 degrees!

During my time at Grain I got the opportunity to work on a lot of amazing projects with major clients. It’s lovely to work in graphic design, and it gets even better when you see it come to life in the real world.

Before I left The Netherlands to work at Grain I was lucky enough to design the annual report of Wim van de Donk, Commissioner of the King of the province Noord-Brabant in The Netherlands. I worked alongside Anne Roos Hosters, who is also in the same year of graphic design at AKV St.Joost in ’S-Hertogenbosch.

The annual report was sent to all of the Commissioners throughout the country. We then received a letter which said that “His Majesty the King Willem-Alexander and Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands” had a copy of the book, designed by us, in their hands! This cannot get any better for designers like ourselves just starting out. To see the online version, please click here.

With a backpack full of new skills and experiences, I’m heading back to The Netherlands to start the last year of my bachelors in graphic design. Good bye for now, Grain!
