Opening the door to 2,000 years of local history
Interactive floor plan
With a fascinating collection of objects displayed in a charming 15th century Tudor house, Amersham Museum offers the perfect introduction to this historic market town in the Chilterns.
Designed and developed by Grain, the museum’s new website improves access to the collection, while breathing new life into a story that stretches back over 2,000 years. We began by redrawing the museum’s symbol and logotype, and creating a new colour palette inspired by an exhibit on popular hues from the Tudor period.
The website is straightforward and simple to navigate. The museum’s opening hours vary depending on the season, so to make it easier for people to plan their visit we suggested a homepage calendar with colour-coded symbols showing opening times and events. Interactive floor maps provide sneak previews of featured items: simply click on the question mark and a pop-up window reveals some handy facts about the exhibit.
“When Amersham Museum received funding to create a new digital strategy we asked Grain Creative to help us. We felt that the team could refresh and enhance the museum’s website and provide the broader expertise to help the museum improve its presence online. They were also able to provide training and ongoing support to ensure that the layout and navigation of the site suited all needs, tastes and ages. It was important to combine simplicity with easily manageable interactive features that bring the museum to life online.
The website has been extremely well received by the Board of Trustees and we have received very positive feedback from the public.” – Emily Toettcher, Curator
